At about 8.00 a.m. on Saturday 2 May 1970, Antonio Giorgi (44 years) was found murdered in the rear yard of his Essex Street home at Woodville Gardens. Mr Giorgi had been shot several times by what police believe to be was a large calibre handgun. The neighbours had heard shots at about 2.30 a.m. that morning but did not investigate.
Mr Giorgi is believed to have returned home from a late shift at the then GMH plant at Woodville where he worked as a spot welder. No motive has been established for this murder.
