On Monday 19 January 2004, Garry Hawkins, aged 49 years, was located by his flatmate at their home on Denton Street, Hendon. He was found on the lounge room floor and had been assaulted around the head area with what is believed to be the handle of a dumbbell. This item has never been located.
Mr Hawkins was a father of two children and maintained a close relationship with them although they did not reside with him. He was last seen alive by his daughter and ex-partner on the afternoon of Friday 16 January 2004. His time of death is believed to be between 5.00 p.m. on Friday 16 January 2004 and the early hours of Saturday 17 January 2004.
A suspect has been identified but there is insufficient evidence at this time to charge them in relation to this matter.
