COLD CASE – David Whiteford

David Whiteford was shot and killed in a robbery gone wrong at an Edwardstown hotel.
The 26-year old had been a regular patron at the Maid of Auckland Hotel on South Road, when at about 10.10pm on 9 May 1989 an armed man held up the bottle shop.
When the attendant activated an alarm, Mr Whiteford ran to assist.
When he confronted the armed male, he was shot in the chest and died at the scene.
The offender was wearing blue overalls and a full-face balaclava.
There was a similar robbery at the Lockleys Hotel bottle shop about 30 minutes before Mr Whiteford was gunned down.
The description of the person wanted in that armed robbery was similar to the man who held up the Maid of Auckland.
The wanted man is described as Caucasian, between 5’5 and 5’6 tall with a thin build and an Australian accent.
A reward of up to $200,000 is on offer for information that leads to a conviction in this case.
