At about 1.45 a.m. on Saturday 18 December 1971, Patricia (‘Suzie’) Schmidt, aged 16 years, was last seen alive leaving work at the Burger King Restaurant, on the corner of South Road and Marion Road, Darlington. Suzie was reported as a missing person at 9.30 a.m. that day after having failed to return home from work.
At about 6.30 p.m. on Saturday 18 December 1971, Suzie’s naked body was located off a dirt track at Hallett Cove. There was evidence located at the scene that indicates she had been sexually assaulted before being murdered.
