Case profile – Gail King

Gail King was last seen alive at a Yorke Peninsula home she was renovating with her defacto husband on 7 July 1997.

Investigations found the 28-year old mother arrived at the Minlaton house on the evening of Sunday July 6 1997, while her defacto husband had arrived with their two young children several days earlier.

On Monday 7 July they visited several locations, including Troubridge Point and Pondalowie Bay, before arriving back at Minlaton about 5.30pm.

Ms King’s defacto partner said she returned to Adelaide at about 7pm that night because of an occupational health and safety meeting the next day.

Enquiries with her employer, an aged care facility at Gilles Plains, confirmed no scheduled meeting.

Her defacto said he drove his gold Ford Falcon station wagon with the children back to their Brahma Lodge home, arriving at about 6pm on Tuesday 8 July.

Ms King’s white Toyota Corolla was parked in the driveway. The house was locked and there were no obvious signs of a disturbance.

The overnight bag and clothes she had taken to Minlaton were there, but her black vinyl handbag and purse were missing, along with her house and car keys.

Her defacto said several photo albums containing family pictures were also missing. He told police he washed the clothing she was wearing when she left Minlaton after he returned home.

Ms King hasn’t contacted any members of her family or accessed her bank account, adding to the belief that she has been murdered.

Ms King and her partner had been together for just over six years. In addition to their two children, Ms King was also three months pregnant when she disappeared.

A $200,000 reward remains on offer for information that leads to a conviction in this case and/or the recovery of her remains.
