Walkerville residents encouraged to speak up as Crime Stoppers partnership launches

Posted on 08/09/2025

Crime Stoppers South Australia and the Town of Walkerville have joined forces in an exciting new partnership designed to give local residents, businesses and visitors the tools, confidence and encouragement to share information about suspicious behaviour – anonymously – before it has the chance to escalate.

The first campaign under the partnership encourages the community to keep their eyes and ears open for anything that seems unusual, out of place or just doesn’t feel right. The message is clear: if you see something, say something – because even the smallest piece of information could be the missing puzzle piece that police need to solve, stop or prevent crime.

From graffiti and vandalism to theft, drug activity or other concerning behaviour, Crime Stoppers provides a safe and completely anonymous way for people to share what they know, without fear of having to get involved directly, say who they are or go to court.

As part of the partnership, residents can expect to see:

  • Locally tailored crime awareness initiatives that feature practical crime awareness and prevention tips;
  • Geo-fenced social media activity to reach people living, working or visiting the Town of Walkerville area; and
  • Community activations and events where locals can learn more about how to keep their neighbourhood safe.

Nigel Smart, CEO of Crime Stoppers SA, said the initiative represents an important investment in building a connected, confident and proactive community.

“This partnership shows real civic leadership by the Town of Walkerville on behalf of its residents,” Mr Smart said. “By working together, we’re making it easier than ever for people to feel safe and speak up about what’s happening in their neighbourhood.”

“Crime – and even the fear of it – can really impact how confident people feel in their community. We’re here to offer a safe and anonymous way to report anything suspicious or that just doesn’t feel right, along with practical tips to help protect yourself and your property.”

“It could be something small like graffiti or vandalism, or something more serious like illicit drug activity or theft. Whatever it is, if it’s worrying you, share what you know with Crime Stoppers – because we know that even the smallest piece of information could make a big difference when passed on to police.”

Mayor of the Town of Walkerville Melissa Jones said the partnership reflects Council’s proactive response to community feedback about safety and security.

“We’ve listened to our residents and taken action – this is the first partnership of its kind for our Council with Crime Stoppers, and it’s focused on strengthening community confidence and connection,” Mayor Jones said.

“By working together with SAPOL and Crime Stoppers, we’re building stronger lines of engagement and trust, while also delivering crime prevention initiatives that directly respond to the needs of our community.”

The September–October campaign will roll out across the Council area, local retail precincts and online channels, with messages tailored to reach people in their everyday routines.
