We’ve been shortlisted in the Australian Fraud Awards!

Posted on 06/02/2024

Crime Stoppers South Australia is pleased to announce we’ve been shortlisted in two entries for the 2024 Australian Fraud Awards in recognition of our efforts to tackle retail crime and provide a safer shopping environment for workers and customers.

While both entries are in the Retail Risk Retailer and Policing Collaboration Award category, the first nomination is in recognition of the ongoing success of SAPOL’s Operation Measure. We’ve been a long-standing supporter of this very effective policing approach, which targets retail shop theft and looks to catch those responsible. In fact, Operation Measure won the Best Retailer and Policing Collaboration Award at the 2023 Australian Fraud Awards, so time will tell if back-to-back victories can be achieved.

The other nomination recognises our more recent partnership announcement with Coles, which sees us working with the retail leader and SA Police to actively prevent and solve retail crime in stores across South Australia. We are planning more pop-up stalls at Coles stores across Adelaide so people can find out more about our partnership and how they can help be part of a push to solve and prevent retail crime.

The dedicated retail crime campaign web page – which profiles numerous retail crime suspects who have been caught on camera but still need to be identified – remains our most visited page, with an average of 60 views per day. We’ve also been trialling geo-fenced social media in nearby suburbs of active criminals to help put a name to a face. We’ve done four trials involving five unknown suspects and we’ve received nominations for all of them.

The Australian Fraud Awards are held in high regard amongst the retail and security industry and recognise exceptional performance on a national level. Being shortlisted in two categories is a fantastic acknowledgment and we look forward to the final results.
