Operation Hurricane 2 (20-17)

                 

SAPOL has commenced Operation Hurricane 2 which will run for six months and is a focused policing response to reduce volume crime in the metropolitan area.  SAPOL will concentrate on a dozen “crime clusters” where there have been recorded higher rates of crime and where victims have been identified.  Over the last year crime figures reveal significant surges in offences, notably property break-ins, illegal use of a motor vehicle, theft from shops, fraud and receiving stolen goods, with thieves targeting more personal items, such as wallets and handbags which contain credit cards and mobile phones.  Operation Hurricane 2 will utilise both uniform and plain-clothed police using overt and covert tactics, as well as additional crime scene investigators deployed to gain more forensic evidence for both prosecutions and intelligence to identify offenders committing multiple crimes.
